Tallmadge High School
Kent Roosevelt High School
In their first contest within the newly formed Suburban League American Conference, the Tallmadge Lady Blue Devils picked up a hard fought 47-44 victory of the Kent Roosevelt Lady Rough Riders. Tallmadge now sits at 4-0 (1-0) on the season.
A tight game throughout, the Lady Blue Devils found themselves at the wrong end of a 35-32 score after 3 quarters. Thanks to some increased defensive pressure in the 4th quarter, Tallmadge was able to force Kent into some turnovers that allowed Coach Epstein’s crew to take the lead. Kent fought back with some clutch 3 pointers, but ultimately Tallmadge iced the game with a couple of free throws that counted as Brin Stralka’s 15th and 16th points of the game, which led all scorers.
In addition to her game-high 16 points, Stralka added 8 rebounds 4 steals and 4 assists. Olivia Ayres added 11 points and 5 assists.
Jamie McGhee had 10 points 9 rebounds 3 steals and 2 blocks, and she was integral in holding Kent’s posts, Kayla Bennett and Samara Wright, without a single point in the paint during the 2nd half. Their lone second half bucket was a Samara Wright 3 pointer. Other defensive contributors were Ally Warmenhoven, and Brin Stralka.
The Tallmadge JV team moved to 3-0 on the season with a 55-41 win. Andreana Gotto had 19, while Alex Perrin and Alanna McGhee added 12 and 11 points each.
The Lady Blue Devils return to conference action Wednesday night at James O. Maddox Court against Copley.
