OHSAA recently released an update regarding academic eligibility for athletes during the first part of the 2020-21 school year.
Due to the varying educational delivery methods that have been employed by districts throughout the state since the beginning of the school year, OHSAA has waived their Scholarship Bylaw through the first semester of the 2020-21 school year.
As a result, all student-athletes in grades 7-12 will be considered academically eligible for the start of the Winter 2020 season regardless of their academic performance during the 1st grading period of this school year (per OHSAA policy and Tallmadge City Schools policy).
OHSAA noted that the Scholarship Bylaw will be enforced at the conclusion of the 2nd grading period. This means that the academic performance of student-athletes during the 2nd grading period will determine their academic eligibility to play a sport during the 3rd grading period.
